Losari Hamlet

Work resumes in the Losari hamlet (Magelang, C. Java) to further excavate the remains of a Hindu temple initially found in 2004 and first excavated in 2007. The excavation by the team of archeologist of the Yogyakarta based Archeology Unit this year unearthed what presumed to be the core building of the temple. Two finely carved (and relatively well preserved) statues were removed from the sites for temporary ex-situ safe keeping, and crumbled walls of the temple are documented for later reconstruction.

The Preservation Unit of the Archeology Agency has purchased the temple site off its local owner, but more work is required to fully study the sites, completely excavate the temple remains, and make the findings available for further research and enjoyment by the general public. The Tahija Foundation is working with the Archeology Unit to prepare a long term plan for fund raising to support research, preservation and utilization of the site.
